SHARE NOW

Auburn Police say Michael Abdelhandy was taken into custody Wednesday morning following an alleged domestic incident on Cayuga Street.

Officers responded around 8:50 a.m. after reports of a woman injured and damage to her vehicle. A child was also present in the car at the time. According to authorities, the victim and witnesses stated that Abdelhandy struck both the woman and her car while she had come to pick up belongings. A full stay-away order of protection had been in place for the victim.

Abdelhandy fled the scene but was located shortly afterward. He was charged with Aggravated Family Offense and Criminal Contempt—both felonies—along with misdemeanor charges of Criminal Mischief, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Harassment. He was also held on an unrelated bench warrant from Auburn City Court.

Following arraignment, Abdelhandy was remanded to Cayuga County Jail.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
