You can’t have fall in Upstate NY without pumpkins. Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Seneca County for Pumpkin Day at the Farmers’ Markets the end of September! CCE Seneca will be at the markets in, Ovid, Seneca Falls and Waterloo with pie pumpkins, mini-pumpkin muffins to sample, and pumpkin recipes to make at home, along with information about the nutritional benefits of orange veggies. There will be a limited number of pumpkins for decoration for any children/youth seeking a pumpkin. To get one all they need to do is answer a simple pumpkin question. The 4-H department will also have Fall activities and games for Youth, with the opportunity to win prizes, too! To help carry your farm fresh produce and other goodies from the market, get a Seneca Recycles reusable shopping bag with information on recycling. A small quantity of blue bins for recycling will be available for Seneca County residents.
Seneca County CCE Pumpkin Day will be at the Ovid Farmers Market at The Three Bears on Main Street on Saturday September 27th from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, then at Seneca Falls Farmers Market at the Community Center on Water Street on Tuesday, September 30th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, and at the Waterloo Rotary Farm Market in LaFayette Park Thursday October 2nd from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.
CCE Seneca Executive Director Ave Bauder states, “We are excited to partner with the Farmers Markets for CCE Pumpkin Days so that visitors can not only shop local and eat local, but also have the opportunity to learn all of the things that Cooperative Extension does and have their questions answered. From nutrition to recycling, gardening to positive youth development, CCE puts knowledge to work to help improve people’s lives.”
