Public Hearings Set on Proposed Utility Rate Increases, Office Closures

The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) has scheduled a series of in-person and virtual public hearings to gather input from residents on proposed rate hikes by Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E) and New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG).

The companies are seeking revenue increases that would raise monthly bills for customers beginning April 30, 2027. Under the proposals:

  • RG&E bills would increase by about $33.01 for electric service and $18.87 for gas service.
  • NYSEG bills would increase by about $33.12 for electric service and $33.57 for gas service.

The proposals also call for closing several walk-in customer service offices, including:

  • NYSEG offices: 73 Wright Circle in Auburn and 1387 Dryden Road in Ithaca.
  • RG&E offices: 14 State Street in Sodus and 180 South Clinton Avenue in Rochester.

In-Person Public Hearings

Tuesday, September 30

  • Sodus – 1 p.m., Sodus Community Library (17 Maple Avenue)
  • Auburn – 6 p.m., Cayuga Community College (197 Franklin Street)

Wednesday, October 8

  • Ithaca – 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., Ithaca Town Hall (215 North Tioga Street)

A virtual hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.. Residents who wish to make a public statement during the hearing must register by Friday, October 17, through the Department of Public Service website.

Residents are encouraged to attend and share feedback before the commission makes its final decision.
