A former Corning Painted Post School District employee has been sentenced for stealing from school-related accounts.

35-year-old Kari Warner pleaded guilty on July 2 to second-degree forgery and third-degree grand larceny, both Class D felonies, after taking money from the Corning Painted Post School PTA Fund and the School Employee Union Account. At the time, Warner served as treasurer for both accounts.

On August 27, Steuben County Judge Christopher Tunney sentenced Warner to five years of felony probation and 710 hours of community service, to be served concurrently. She was also ordered to pay full restitution of more than $40,000, which was completed at the time of sentencing.

On Friday, Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker released a statement saying the sentence “reflects the seriousness of the crime and ensures accountability while providing restitution to the victims.”
