Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has criticized two Syracuse University professors for making controversial remarks about the recent murder of conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

Tenney’s statement, issued Wednesday, named professors Jenn Jackson and Farhana Sultana, alleging that they mocked Kirk’s death on social media with comments including “rest in piss” and other disparaging language.

“While Americans across the country are mourning the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk, two Syracuse University professors used their platforms to celebrate and mock his death,” Tenney said. She called the remarks “reprehensible” and said the university should hold the professors accountable.

Tenney further suggested that Syracuse University should publicly disclose the steps it is taking in response and warned that continued employment of the professors could put federal funding at risk. She emphasized that academic freedom does not protect celebrating the death of a citizen.

Syracuse University has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
