Bath Man Accused of Injuring Officer During Arrest

SHARE NOW

A Bath man is facing felony charges after allegedly injuring a police officer during an arrest earlier this month.

Police say 39-year-old Frederick Valkenburgh was blocking traffic on East Morris Street on September 5 and refused repeated orders to leave the roadway. When officers attempted to arrest him, he allegedly resisted, and a Bath officer was seriously hurt in the struggle. The officer was treated at a hospital and released, but has not returned to work.

Valkenburgh was initially charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction, and later released. Following an investigation into the officer’s injuries, he was re-arrested on September 11 and charged with second-degree assault, a felony. He was arraigned and released again.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
