A Horseheads man has been arrested for the alleged murder of a three-year-old, according to State Police.
Troopers said they were contacted by the Chemung County Child Protective Services just before 4:00p on Monday after a child brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira died.
Troopers identified the victim as Finn Hopkins of Horseheads. 27-year-old Christopher Woods, also of Horseheads, the boyfriend of Hopkins’ mother, brought the toddler to the hospital after he was found unresponsive. Despite lifesaving measures, the child was pronounced dead.
Police add, hospital staff contacted Child Protective Services after “suspicious injuries” were found on the victim and a sibling. After being contacted, troopers conducted an investigation and determined that the fatal injuries were caused by Woods. He was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a felony. He was arraigned in Chemung County Court and taken to jail without bail.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police at (585) 398-4100 or [email protected].
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
