The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has temporarily closed the footbridge at Birdseye Hollow State Forest in the Sanford Lake Recreation Area, located in the Town of Bath.
A recent inspection revealed significant structural deterioration, prompting the closure to ensure public safety. DEC staff are assessing the damage and developing a plan for repairs or replacement.
The closure affects walking access between the Sanford Lake boat launch and campsite 7 near Kettle Road. Visitors can still access all other areas of the Sanford Lake Recreation Area via Kettle or Round Lake Roads.
DEC officials will announce when the bridge reopens. For more information, contact the DEC Bath suboffice at 607-776-2165.
