As fall routines settle in, AAA says drivers may soon see relief at the pump. National demand for gas dropped last week from 9.11 to 8.5 million barrels per day, according to the Energy Information Administration. Meanwhile, U.S. gasoline supply rose to 220 million barrels.
The national average price for regular gas is now $3.18 per gallon, with crude oil trading between $62 and $68 per barrel. The shift to winter-blend gasoline — cheaper to produce — is also underway.
In New York, the average gas price is $3.90 per gallon, down two cents from last week. Diesel prices rose slightly, with the national average at $3.69.
