The Ithaca Police Department has announced that Anthony G. Bellamy will join the department as its newest Deputy Chief, effective October 2, 2025.
Bellamy comes to IPD after more than 20 years with the Cornell University Police Department, where he rose through the ranks from patrol officer to chief. He has led CUPD since April 2022.
Throughout his career, Bellamy has emphasized officer development, wellness, and community engagement — priorities that align closely with IPD’s mission. He has also been instrumental in advancing training programs and building stronger connections between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Bellamy holds a master’s degree in public administration from Marist College and a bachelor’s in criminal justice systems from Keuka College. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
The appointment follows a statewide search that drew several qualified candidates. The hiring panel included representatives from IPD, the Greater Ithaca Activity Center, the Community Justice Center, and the City of Ithaca’s Human Resources office.
IPD says it is confident Bellamy’s leadership and vision will help guide the department forward and enhance community safety.
