DOT to Host Sterling Bridge Replacement Project Meeting

SHARE NOW

The New York State Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on Tuesday regarding a project to replace two aging bridges on Route 104A in the Town of Sterling, Cayuga County.

The open-house style meeting will run from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sterling Town Hall, 1290 State Route 104A. Preliminary project plans will be on display, and DOT staff will be available to answer questions. No formal presentation is planned.

The project calls for replacing the existing single-span arch bridges over Sterling Creek and Sterling Valley Creek, which date back to 1910 and 1914. Officials say the new single-span steel bridges will be built on an improved alignment with two 11-foot travel lanes, wider shoulders, and better pedestrian facilities. The upgrades are intended to create a safer and more efficient crossing along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail.

A temporary off-site detour will be used during construction to minimize traffic disruptions.

The project is in the preliminary design phase, with construction expected to begin in 2027.

For more information or to request accessibility accommodations, contact project manager Louis Elefante at (315) 428-4630 or write to the NYSDOT Region 3 office in Syracuse, referencing Project ID 3198.09.
