New York Gas Prices Tick Up Slightly

SHARE NOW

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in New York State is now $3.18, up three cents from last Monday. According to AAA of Western and Central New York, one year ago, drivers in the state were paying $3.47 on average.

Nationally, the average price sits at $3.19, also up three cents from a week ago. One year ago, the national average was $3.33.

A recent refinery issue caused a small jump in gas prices ahead of Labor Day weekend, but prices have stabilized over the last couple of days. Flooding at the BP Whiting Refinery in Indiana forced the largest refinery in the Midwest to shut down operations for several days following a severe thunderstorm. The refinery has since come back online.

Overall, gas prices remain consistently lower than a year ago. This morning’s national average is 14 cents lower than it was this time last year. Oil prices, which have a direct impact on gas prices, remain low as well, trading in the $65 to $68 range per barrel.

This morning, diesel prices are down one cent to $3.69 compared to last week. The New York average is $3.89, down one cent from last week.
