The City of Ithaca is asking residents to weigh in on the next phase of its Green New Deal as officials work to update the city’s Climate Action Plan.
Since its launch in 2019, the Green New Deal has aimed to cut emissions while addressing equity and sustainability. Now, city staff and the Sustainability & Climate Justice Commission are shifting the plan’s focus to center on housing, jobs, and health — an approach they call “Dignity Toward Decarbonization.”
The updated strategy organizes goals into six sectors: housing, labor, public health, equity, emergency response, and power reliability. Officials say the new framework is designed to strengthen infrastructure and protect vulnerable residents while advancing the city’s climate goals.
Public feedback will play a key role in shaping the plan. Surveys will be released in three phases — Housing & Labor; Public Health & Equity; and Power Reliability & Emergency Response — through the city’s OpenGov platform.
Residents can also share their thoughts in person during a drop-in feedback event hosted by the Sustainability & Climate Justice Commission today 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Borg Warner Room of the Tompkins County Public Library.
