SENSORY FRIENDLY DAY: Dim the lights and lower the volume, The Fair will offer a Sensory Friendly Day on Wednesday, August 27, from 9:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. During that time, many rides on the Midway will operate without lights while sounds, music, and public address announcements throughout The Fair will be reduced or limited to accommodate those with sensitivities. COMPETITIVE STREAK: Each year, The Fair offers a wide variety of more than 350 competitive categories, including baking, canning, arts and crafts, photography, horticulture, and more. For the seasoned professional or a passionate hobbyist, this is a chance for fairgoers to earn recognition, prizes – and bragging rights – by going up against the best in New York State. Tomorrow, culinary competitors in the Chocolate and New York State Potato categories will learn who takes home top honors. For more culinary competition announcements, visit our Wegmans Art & Home Center schedule.

THE PIO’S PICKS: As a native of Seneca Falls, I’m especially looking forward to checking out women-owned businesses at The Fair, including vendors like Pink Bronco (custom western-themed hats and trucker hats) and Milkstone (permanent jewelry) or food spots such as Petu Haitian Soule Food and The Sweet Praxis. Ask the NYSF team for other suggestions and use the New York State Fair app to locate your favorites!

INTO SOMETHING GOOD: On Day Seven of The Great New York State Fair, 60,116 fairgoers came through the gates to celebrate Fire, Rescue, and EMS Day and Beef Day. Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits sang the hits at Chevy Court, followed by a fun performance by Sister Hazel at 6 p.m. at Chevy Court, and Lil Jon got the crowd of ~6,000 people going amidst the stormy weather at Suburban Park.
