Canandaigua Woman Charged with Identity Theft in Apartment Rental Case

SHARE NOW

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Canandaigua woman accused of using another person’s identity to rent an apartment and failing to pay more than $6,000 in rent and utilities.

Deputies say 48-year-old Nichelle Beale was taken into custody Monday at her residence on County Road 28. Investigators allege Beale used another individual’s personal information to secure a lease at Candlewood Apartments between May and August of this year.

During that time, Beale allegedly failed to pay rent and utility costs, resulting in more than $6,000 in losses for the apartment complex.

She was charged with Identity Theft in the First Degree, a felony, and taken to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
