The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a preliminary report (see below) on the small plane crash in Steuben County that killed a Penfield man on August 1.
According to the report, the Cessna 152 departed Ledgedale Airpark in Brockport, heading south. After flying roughly 40 miles, the plane entered an area with limited coverage, about 12 miles north of where it ultimately crashed.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. New York State Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Brian Valder, a student pilot.
The NTSB report also notes that several witnesses saw the plane circling the area at low altitude before the crash, with one witness even providing video of the aircraft.
The investigation is ongoing.
