Boater Seriously Injured in Canandaigua Lake Accident Charged

SHARE NOW

A Canandaigua man has been charged in connection with a July boating accident on Canandaigua Lake that left him seriously injured.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year-old Benjamin Cramer was arrested Thursday on charges related to the July 12 crash off East Lake Road in the town of Middlesex.

Deputies say Cramer was operating a boat that struck the shoreline, ejecting him onto land. Witnesses pulled him from the water and provided aid until emergency crews arrived. Cramer was first taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital, then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for further treatment.

He is charged with operating a vessel while impaired by drugs, reckless operation of a vessel, and multiple boating violations.

Cramer was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to answer the charges in Middlesex Town Court.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
