Auburn police arrested a city man Monday night after he allegedly attacked another man with a hammer and tried to force his way into an apartment.
Officers responded to 7 Grover Street around 9:45 p.m. after the victim reported someone had thrown a hammer at him and was trying to break in. Police say the victim told them Michael Tillman struck him with the hammer, swung it at him again, and attempted to push his way inside.
The victim was able to lock the door and call 911. Tillman fled before officers arrived but was located shortly after on Loop Road and taken into custody.
Tillman was charged with harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. He was booked at Auburn Police Headquarters before being taken to the Cayuga County Jail to await arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
