The Schuyler County Italian American Festival kicks off today at Clute Park in Watkins Glen, launching four days of food, fun, and community celebration. Running through Sunday, the festival features live entertainment, family activities, and plenty of Italian cuisine.
What began 40+ years ago as a one-day event on Fourth Street has blossomed into a multi-day summer tradition, organized by the Watkins Glen Italian American Festival Committee—a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Italian heritage while giving back to the local community. Over the years, the festival has raised and donated funds to area organizations and causes.
“Our mission has always been to create a space that celebrates culture, unity, and generosity,” said Festival Committee member Kimberly Winsock. “Whether you’re Italian or not, everyone’s welcome at our table.”
According to organizers, highlights of the 2025 festival include:
• Fireworks Over Seneca Lake: The fan-favorite fireworks display will light up the sky Saturday night, August 16 at 9:30 p.m., a can’t-miss spectacle best viewed from the lakeshore.
• Live Music & Entertainment: A full slate of local and regional performers will take the stage throughout the weekend.
• Spaghetti Eating Contest: Returning Saturday at 4:00 p.m. — free to enter, and always wildly entertaining.
• Trivia Night: Join the fun Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. for a $5-per-player trivia competition as part of the official festival kick-off.
• Food and Craft Vendors: Sample a wide array of Italian and American fare, festival-favorites, and handmade goods from over 35 vendors.
• Rides: Festival-goers can enjoy rides each day of the festival!
