A Cayuga County man is behind bars after deputies say he violated an order of protection during a domestic incident.
Sheriff Brian Schenck says deputies responded to a home in the Town of Victory around 9:45 a.m. on August 7 for a reported domestic dispute. Investigators learned the victim had an active order of protection against 28-year-old John Burns, and determined Burns violated it.
Burns was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony. He was arraigned in Cayuga County CAP Court and remanded to jail without bail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
