Flotsam River Circus Brings Free Performances to Geneva, Seneca Falls

SHARE NOW

As part of the 200th anniversary celebration of the Erie Canal, Flotsam River Circus will be bringing their unique blend of music, circus arts, and puppetry to Geneva on Wednesday and Seneca Falls on Thursday.

Flotsam River Circus is a troupe of musicians, circus performers, and puppeteers traveling the entire length of the Erie Canal and Hudson River on a handmade, ramshackle raft. They stop in waterfront towns from Buffalo to New York City to present free, family-friendly performances that engage communities with their waterways while spreading magic and whimsy.

In Geneva, the show will be held at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center beach, just west of the visitor center. The performance begins at 7:00 p.m. and will wrap up by 8:30 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and arrive early for the best spots. Look for the most unusual “boat” on the water — that’s Flotsam’s raft!

The following evening in Seneca Falls, Flotsam will perform at the Bonafiglia Family Foundation Property, just west of the National Women’s Hall of Fame. This show also starts at 7:00 p.m. and ends before 8:30 p.m.

While the shows are free, Flotsam River Circus operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and welcomes donations to support its journey. Suggested contributions range from $10 to $25 per person.

Parking near both venues is limited, so attendees are encouraged to carpool, bike, kayak, or use public transit if possible. Boat viewers are welcome but should watch from shore, and boats are asked not to position themselves behind the raft during the performances.

Organizers thank the Town of Seneca Falls, the Bonafiglia Family Foundation, the Finger Lakes Welcome Center, and the community of Geneva for their warm welcome.

The Erie Canal tour covers more than 600 miles and dozens of stops this summer, making Flotsam River Circus a special highlight of the canal’s bicentennial festivities.
