A Penn Yan man is facing charges after police say his young child was found running down the street alone, wearing only a shirt.
According to the Penn Yan Police Department, officers were called to Liberty Street following a report of a child running down the road unsupervised. With help from the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, officers located the child and followed him back to a nearby residence belonging to 33-year-old Brandon J. Thompson.
Police say Thompson told officers he was unaware the child had gotten out of the house.
Thompson was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
