Changes to New York’s unemployment rules were enacted as part of the 2025 state budget. The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce will hold a seminar next week to help business owners understand what these changes mean for them.

The changes, which were designed to stabilize the unemployment insurance trust fund, contain both fixed elements and elements tied to an individual business’s experience and management practices.

Hosted by Jason Banuski of HR One, the seminar will take place on Thursday at the chamber’s offices at 2 South St, Auburn. The seminar is set to run from 9:00-10:00a.

The employee-friendly session will cover what is changing, when the changes take effect, how the new rules can raise or lower a business’s unemployment insurance tax rate, and what steps a business can take now to mitigate exposure. Attendees will also be able to ask questions to get answers specific to their businesses.

Registration is required to attend the seminar. There is a fee – $10 for chamber members and $20 for non-members – to attend. Registration can be done here.
