The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Hornell woman with multiple felonies after she allegedly defrauded the county’s Department of Social Services out of more than $5,000.
Investigators say 34-year-old Amanda Tuttle submitted false information to Social Services between February 12 and August 31, 2024, and received $5,035 in benefits she was not eligible to collect.
Tuttle is charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a class E felony, as well as Welfare Fraud and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, both class D felonies.
She was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
Sheriff Jim Allard thanked the Department of Social Services’ Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office for assisting with the investigation.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
