A Palmyra woman has been charged with petit larceny after allegedly stealing merchandise from the Dollar General on East Main Street.
According to the Palmyra Police Department, officers responded to the store around 2 p.m. on Tuesday for a reported larceny in progress. Store employees reported seeing Jillian Beebe place items into her backpack. She had previously been warned by staff about theft-related behavior.
Police say Beebe left the store without making a purchase and admitted she had not paid for anything when confronted. A search of her backpack turned up $59.58 worth of unpaid merchandise.
Beebe was arrested, processed at the Palmyra Police Department, and released with an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in Palmyra Village Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
