Report: Cornell Near $100M Deal to Restore Frozen Federal Funds

SHARE NOW

Cornell University is reportedly nearing a settlement with the Trump administration that could restore up to $100 million in previously frozen federal funding, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The potential agreement, which could be announced as early as this week, follows similar settlements reached with Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Brown University. The report cites unnamed sources familiar with the discussions.

While the deal is not yet finalized and remains subject to change, Bloomberg reports that talks are ongoing over whether the settlement will include a resolution monitor — a condition Columbia agreed to as part of its $221 million deal.

Cornell declined to comment on the status of the negotiations.

The university is one of several elite institutions facing federal funding freezes under the Trump administration, which launched a Title VI investigation into Cornell earlier this year. According to The New York Times, over $1 billion in funding was frozen, with around 120 research projects halted and grants terminated over political concerns.

More information is expected once the agreement is finalized.
