A 24-year-old Ithaca man is facing felony charges after police say he assaulted someone with a hammer in a downtown parking garage.
Ithaca Police responded to the Green Street Parking Garage around 7 on Thursday morning for a reported assault. Officers arrived to find a victim who had been physically attacked and struck with a hammer. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Later that morning, police located and arrested the suspect, identified as Jordan Berrios, in the Asteri building on East Green Street. Berrios is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree and assault, both Class D felonies, along with misdemeanor menacing.
He was arraigned in Ithaca City Court before Judge Peacock and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
