Geneva’s Budget Process Underway

SHARE NOW

The City of Geneva is in the midst of its annual budget planning process, a months-long effort that City Manager Amie Hendrix says is focused on balancing services, community needs, and financial realities.

“It’s always budget season,” Hendrix told our Ted Baker this week on FLX Morning. “We’re constantly evaluating what services we’re providing, what residents are paying for, and how we bring all that together into one small city budget.”

She emphasized that when city services are running smoothly—like well-maintained courts or recreation programs—they often go unnoticed. But those operations all tie into what Hendrix describes as the city’s “savings and investment plan.”

This year’s process began with priority-setting meetings in the spring, where City Council members and department heads discussed needs, goals, and areas that require more investment or updated approaches.

“We’re hearing where departments need additional resources or how they might work differently,” Hendrix said. “That feedback is essential to building a budget that reflects both challenges and opportunities.”

With rising costs and changing economic conditions, Hendrix said the city is also looking at how to stretch resources further, including new ways to utilize state and federal funding.

“We know it’s not the same environment as even a few years ago,” she said. “It’s about making smart investments for Geneva’s future.”

The final budget will be shaped in the coming months, with opportunities for public input as the process moves forward.
