Bradford Man Arrested After Gunfire Incidents at Corning Home

A Bradford man is facing multiple felony charges following two gun-related incidents at the same Corning residence, according to the Corning Police Department.

30-year-old Andrew Machuga was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment (Class D felony), third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (Class D felony), and criminal possession of a firearm.

Police say the charges stem from an initial incident on July 24, when Corning Police, New York State Police, and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots at a home on Griffith Street. Investigators later determined that Machuga had allegedly fired a gun recklessly inside the home before fleeing the scene. A firearm was recovered from the location.

Authorities received multiple tips and pieces of evidence from the public that helped identify Machuga as the suspect.

On Monday, officers were called back to the same Griffith Street address for a report that Machuga had returned and was armed. He was located by police and brought in for questioning, which led to his arrest.

Further investigation revealed that Machuga is a two-time convicted felon and was allegedly in possession of a “sawed-off” 12-gauge shotgun. Police say his actions posed a serious risk to other residents.

Machuga was processed at the Corning Police Department and taken to the Steuben County Jail without bail. Police say the investigation remains active, and additional charges may be filed.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
