In a significant milestone for a Finger Lakes native, Emil Bove, who grew up in Seneca Falls, has been confirmed to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, one of the most influential courts in the country. The Senate approved his nomination in a narrow 50-49 vote on Tuesday night.

Bove’s appointment places him on the Philadelphia-based 3rd Circuit, which hears major federal appeals from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The court plays a pivotal role in shaping legal precedent across the Northeast.

A 1999 salutatorian of Mynderse Academy, Bove’s journey from a small Finger Lakes town to the upper ranks of the American judiciary reflects both exceptional legal skill and years of public service. After graduating from SUNY Albany with a degree in public policy and economics in 2003, he earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2008.

Bove went on to serve as an assistant U.S. attorney in Manhattan, where he prosecuted complex federal cases for the Southern District of New York. He later held senior roles within the U.S. Department of Justice and also served as an attorney for President Donald Trump.
