An Auburn man has pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court to assaulting an Auburn police officer during a 2024 incident.
Lawrence Atkins admitted to causing injury to the officer while trying to avoid arrest on September 19 of last year. Prosecutors say Atkins ran from the scene, and during the pursuit, the officer suffered a serious leg injury after hitting a metal door frame. Atkins pleaded guilty to assault as a violent felony and will be sentenced as a second felony offender due to his prior criminal record.
The 48-year-old faces up to seven years in state prison when he’s sentenced in October.
