The Yates County Veterans Services Office, in partnership with State Senator Tom O’Mara and State Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, will host a special pinning ceremony on Thursday, August 21, to honor Vietnam War Era veterans.
The ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. in the Penn Yan Academy Auditorium, located at 305 Court Street in Penn Yan.
“We are happy to join with Senator O’Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano to hold this ceremony to honor our Vietnam War Era Veterans,” said Doug Gibbs, Yates County Director of Veterans Services.
Gibbs will open the event with a brief welcome, followed by remarks from Senator O’Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano. Afterward, the lawmakers will personally present lapel pins to each eligible veteran as Gibbs reads their names.
Eligibility: Living U.S. veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to receive a pin.
To participate and be recognized at the event, veterans must RSVP by calling the Yates County Veterans Services Agency at 315-536-5196.
The ceremony is open to all veterans and members of the public. A reception will follow at the Johnson-Costello American Legion Post #355, located at 2001 Himrod Road in Penn Yan.
