NJ Man Accused of Stealing Road Signs in Tompkins County

SHARE NOW

A New Jersey man is facing charges after New York State Police say he was caught stealing road signs while driving under the influence in the Town of Caroline.

Troopers arrested 21-year-old Ryan Morris of Pennsville, NJ, on misdemeanor charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Petit Larceny.

Police were called to 76 Road in Caroline for a report of someone on a side-by-side ATV removing road signs. When a Trooper arrived, Morris was located and showed signs of intoxication, including the odor of alcohol. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which indicated impairment.

Morris was taken to State Police in Ithaca, where he registered a blood alcohol content of .17%, more than twice the legal limit.

He was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Caroline Town Court.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
