Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson on Monday released the results of a full search of the male housing unit at the Seneca County Correctional Facility that was conducted on July 9. The operation was carried out by Correction Officers, Deputy Sheriffs, Investigators, and the Narcotics Detector K-9 Unit, with assistance from the Ontario and Yates County Sheriff’s Offices.
During the search, small quantities of Buspirone—a prescription anti-anxiety medication—and an antacid were found. While Buspirone is not a controlled substance, its unauthorized possession violates facility rules.
Following an investigation, two incarcerated individuals were charged:
- John Walters, Jr., 47, was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband in the Second Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
- Michael Mclean II, 45, was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband in the Second Degree and Criminal Diversion of Prescription Medications in the Fourth Degree, both Class A misdemeanors.
Investigators allege that Mclean illegally possessed Buspirone and provided some to Walters. Both men were issued appearance tickets for Romulus Town Court.
Sheriff Thompson praised the coordinated effort and emphasized the department’s zero-tolerance policy: “These random and complete searches will continue in the future as we are committed to maintaining the safety of our members and incarcerated individuals. We take this responsibility very seriously.”
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
