A Penn Yan man is facing charges after police discovered him asleep behind the wheel at a stop sign with the vehicle still in drive.
According to police reports, 33-year-old Britton Cantrell was found unresponsive in his vehicle at an intersection within the Village of Penn Yan. Officers observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle and noted visible signs of impairment. During questioning, Cantrell admitted to using drugs earlier in the day.
Cantrell was subjected to standard field sobriety tests, which police say he failed. He was then transported to Soldiers & Sailors Hospital, where he consented to a chemical test.
Cantrell was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
