The New York State Police at Deposit are investigating the accidental death of East Branch Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason McGlone, who was electrocuted while responding to a vehicle crash on Thursday in Hancock.
Around 9:30 p.m., McGlon, 51 years old, was driving a rescue pumper to a crash where a pickup truck had struck a utility pole on State Highway 30. A low-hanging electrical wire contacted the fire truck’s roof. When McGlone exited and touched the metal door and ground, he was electrocuted. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The original crash involved 54-year-old Joseph E. Bellows of Downsville, who veered off the road, hitting a guardrail and utility pole. Bellows was treated at Delaware Valley Hospital and later arrested for driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled for a court appearance in September.
