A Long Island man is in critical condition following a serious accident involving an MRI machine, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Police say it happened Wednesday afternoon at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, located in Nassau County.
Emergency responders were called to the scene after receiving a 911 report of a man who had been severely injured inside the facility.
According to investigators, the 61-year-old man entered the MRI room without authorization while a scan was in progress. He was reportedly wearing a large metal chain around his neck, which was pulled toward the powerful magnet of the MRI machine. The force of the pull caused the man to suffer a medical emergency.
He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His name has not been released.
The incident is still under investigation by Nassau County Police.
