The City of Ithaca, in collaboration with the Town of Ithaca and Tompkins County, will hold a public information session next week to help residents understand upcoming changes to FEMA’s updated flood maps and how those changes may impact their properties.
The session is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Ithaca Town Hall and is open to all city, town, and county residents. Local planning officials will be joined by an insurance representative to discuss how to determine if your property now falls within a floodplain, whether flood insurance is required, available coverage options, and potential costs. Renters are also encouraged to attend, as insurance options specific to them will be covered.
The updated FEMA maps could affect insurance requirements and premiums for many local property owners, and officials say the session is an opportunity to get clear, expert guidance. The meeting will also be available virtually via Zoom, and a recording will be posted afterward on the City of Ithaca’s website and YouTube channel.
