A Chenango County man is facing felony charges after allegedly setting a vehicle on fire in the village of Sherburne last weekend.
New York State Police say 43-year-old Delbert Dewey of Sherburne was arrested on July 6 and charged with third-degree arson, a class C felony, and second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony.
Troopers responded to Classic Street in Sherburne just after 11 p.m. on July 5 for a report of a vehicle fire. When they arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, and a large crowd gathered at the scene.
An investigation determined Dewey had intentionally started the fire following a dispute earlier in the day with residents of the home where the vehicle was parked.
Dewey was arrested and processed at the State Police barracks in Norwich. He was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of bail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
