Nearly two years after a deadly crash involving an Amish buggy, New York State Police have arrested a man in connection with the incident.
34-year-old Clark Zanker, 34, of Ogdensburg, was arrested on Monday and charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide and Assault in the Third Degree following a lengthy investigation into the December 11, 2023, crash in the town of Oswegatchie.
According to State Police, the collision happened just after 7 a.m. on State Highway 812 when Zanker, driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck, failed to see an Amish buggy traveling in the same lane and struck it from behind.
The impact demolished the buggy and ejected both passengers. 21-year-old Abraham Shetler, of Heuvelton, was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by Heuvelton Fire and Rescue.
Zanker was arraigned in the Town of Gouverneur Court and released on his own recognizance. The investigation remains ongoing.
