Ithaca Woman Arrested After Knife Threat and Assault on Officer

SHARE NOW

A 28-year-old Ithaca woman is facing multiple charges following a domestic incident and assault on a police officer.

On Sunday night at 6 o’clock, Ithaca Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at 118 E. Green Street. Officers were told that a woman was threatening two people with a knife.

Police identified the suspect as Haley Cleland, who was arrested at the scene and taken to the Ithaca Police Department. While in custody, police say Cleland became uncooperative and injured an officer.

Cleland is now facing a range of charges, including assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal contempt, all felonies.  She was also charged with misdemeanor menacing (two counts), obstructing governmental administration, and criminal tampering.

Cleland was arraigned and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
