A missing 9-year-old child from Ithaca has been safely located in Rhode Island, following a multi-agency investigation involving local and out-of-state authorities.
According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers received a request for assistance from Tompkins County Child Protective Services on Monday morning after the child was taken from the city in violation of a court-issued Order of Protection on July 3.
Police say the suspect is known to the child, and there was no immediate threat to the child or the public.
Leads developed by the Ithaca Police Department led to coordination with the Providence Police Department, which then alerted the Pawtucket Police Department. Officers in Pawtucket successfully located the child, who is now safe.
Authorities from the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families and Ithaca Child Protective Services are working together to create a safety plan for the child moving forward.
