New York State Police issued more than 10,000 tickets during this year’s Fourth of July STOP-DWI enforcement campaign.
The special traffic crackdown, which ran from Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6, 2025, resulted in 10,497 tickets statewide. Troopers arrested 210 people for driving while intoxicated and investigated 716 crashes, including five fatal accidents.
The campaign was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and included sobriety checkpoints, stepped-up DWI patrols, and enforcement against drivers using handheld electronic devices.
Thousands of additional tickets were issued for various traffic violations:
- Speeding: 3,508
- Seatbelt violations: 1,061
- Move Over Law: 301
- Distracted driving: 258
This year’s enforcement numbers were down from 2024, when Troopers issued nearly 13,000 tickets and made 335 DWI arrests. A breakdown of violations by troop was also released by the State Police:
