The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Scipio woman in connection with a traffic stop that occurred last month in the city of Auburn.
According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, 42-year-old Shawna Flanigan was arrested on Saturday and charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a Class A misdemeanor.
The charge stems from a June 7th traffic stop at 12:25 p.m., when a deputy observed Flanigan and another occupant not properly wearing seat belts in a vehicle that was also uninspected. During the stop, the deputy determined Flanigan was driving with a suspended license.
When the deputy attempted to tow the vehicle, Flanigan allegedly refused to exit, prompting her removal from the vehicle. She was issued traffic tickets on scene and informed she would be contacted later to be processed for the obstruction charge.
Flanigan turned herself in on July 5 at the Public Safety Building, where she was processed and released with an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in Auburn City Court on July 11.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
