The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says all three children inside a burning home in Palmyra Sunday night managed to escape before first responders arrived on the scene.
Deputies were called to a structure fire at 1228 Rolfe Street, where initial reports indicated a child was trapped. However, all three children—ages 8, 11, and 14—were found safely outside the home.
The 11-year-old suffered burns and was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital. The 8- and 14-year-olds were taken to the same hospital by ambulance as a precaution due to smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Palmyra and Macedon Police Departments, New York State Police, and more than ten area fire departments. Several ambulance services also responded, including Finger Lakes, Western Wayne, Wayne County, and Newark Ambulance.
