A Cayuga County man has been sentenced to probation, jail time, and a lifetime ban on owning animals after severely injuring a kitten in a 2024 animal cruelty case.
Jeremy McNair, of Port Byron, was sentenced last Thursday in Cayuga County Court by Judge Thomas Leone. He will serve five years of felony probation and spend four months in the Cayuga County Jail on weekends after pleading guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals.
The charge stems from a disturbing incident in July 2024, when New York State Police say McNair threw a 13-week-old kitten during an incident in the Town of Aurelius. The kitten suffered a severed spinal cord and other serious injuries. Despite efforts by the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York, the animal had to be euthanized.
As part of his sentence, the 23-year-old McNair must also pay restitution to the SPCA for the care provided to the injured kitten. In addition, he is now permanently banned from owning or possessing animals.
