As the July 4th holiday weekend approaches, Governor Kathy Hochul says law enforcement across New York will be on high alert amid global tensions and ongoing security concerns.
In a statement Wednesday, Hochul said she has received regular briefings on the current threat landscape, including from federal partners who continue to warn that lone wolf actors remain the most significant threat, particularly during major public holidays like Independence Day.
“Keeping New Yorkers safe is my top priority—especially as families gather to celebrate this holiday weekend,” the Governor said.
State Police will have an increased presence at large events statewide, and coordination is ongoing with local and federal law enforcement agencies. National Guard troops will also remain stationed at major transportation hubs and critical infrastructure points like bridges and tunnels in New York City.
Hochul added that officials are actively monitoring social media and remain alert to possible cyberthreats.
Despite the heightened alert posture, the Governor encouraged residents not to be intimidated and to enjoy the holiday. “If you see something, say something,” she said, urging the public to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement or call the state’s terrorism tips hotline at 1-866-SAFENYS.”
