The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Department of Social Services, has charged a Lyons man with misusing public assistance benefits.
Deputies say 25-year-old Geoffery Evans allegedly sold $289.96 worth of his SNAP benefits to another individual on March 2. He was charged with Misuse of Food Stamps and Petit Larceny. Evans, who is already being held at the Wayne County Jail on unrelated charges, was issued an appearance ticket and returned to custody.
Evans is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date to answer the new charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
