A former teacher from the Rochester area has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography involving a prepubescent minor, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Kevin Burns, 45, of Irondequoit, entered the plea before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford, the case began in November 2024 when the New York State Police executed a search warrant at Burns’ home after he uploaded a child pornography file to Bing Images. Investigators seized multiple electronic devices, including a computer containing over 450 images of child pornography. Some of the material depicted acts of violence and the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.
Burns previously worked as a teacher in the Rochester area, though officials have not disclosed where or when he was employed in that role.
The investigation was led by the New York State Police and the FBI.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 29.
