The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) has been officially approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to sponsor the New York State Registered Apprenticeship Program, allowing eligible veterans and qualified family members to access VA education benefits.
This new designation means that veterans enrolled in RTMA’s registered apprenticeship programs can now receive benefits through the Post-9/11 GI Bill and other VA programs. These benefits can help cover tuition costs, classroom and workplace materials, housing, and even career counseling. Dependents of service-disabled veterans may also qualify for support.
In addition to these VA benefits, RTMA’s registered apprenticeships already offer a variety of incentives, including SUNY Tuition Assistance, free Tooling U-SME licenses, and exclusive incentives for participating member companies.
To ensure support for veterans who were already participating in apprenticeships, the VA backdated RTMA’s approval. The RTMA will work directly with its signatory employers to provide all required documentation so veterans can receive their entitled benefits.
As part of this effort, RTMA’s Director of Workforce Development, Rich Turner, and Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator, Keri Martin, are now certified as School Certifying Officials with the VA — further strengthening the organization’s ability to support veterans throughout their career training.
